Hello Computer Scientists!

Century offers many courses related to Computer Science.

The IT Pathway starts with IT Launch, the introductory course. We learn the basics of programming in Scratch, then move onto Python. We build web pages using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. We discuss the importance of security, privacy and Net Neutrality. We end up building some basic electronics using the RaspBerry Pi.

There are three mid-level courses offered at CTECH, which students can take if they have taken IT Launch or already have some computer experience:

  1. Mobile App Design is offered in alternating years and allows students to build their own apps for phones and tablets, either on Android or on iOS.
  2. Web Design with Javascript is offered in opposite alternating years and teaches students the fundamentals of web design and programming using JavaScript, the most popular language on the internet.
  3. IT Infrastructure delves into hardware and IT support. At the end of the course, students will be prepared to take the CompTia A+ exam and earn an industry-standard accreditation.

Finally, the capstone course for Computer Science is AP Computer Science with Mr. Larsen - a Java programming course. Students should have taken one of the previous courses, but can be admitted with instructor approval.

In addition, Mr. Senska offers a Project Lead The Way Robotics course: http://www.ctech.rochester.k12.mn.us/ctech_pathways/engineering/lonne_senska
